The first stop we made was in Banepa at around 8:30 where we had breakfast. Along the way we did manage short breaks to stretch our legs on a routine basis which is probably why the journey didn’t feel as tiresome. Needless to say, the travel time on the bus was long one but with lively music and games, we surely made a day out of it. We stopped by at Mude to have lunch. The road condition was challenging to say the least but the bus marched through anyway. We reached Kalapani around 4 in the evening and there awaited us, a 3 hour-long hike to Sailung. Gratefully, we didn’t miss the sunset because it was absolutely wonderful. At night when we were all settled in, we even threw a campfire and sat around it. The starry night sky was a sight to behold as it's only on rare occasions we get to see it so open and so sparkling.
The next day, everyone got ready early and we walked up to the view-tower at 5 in the morning so that we wouldn’t miss the sunrise. The first ray of sun hitting those snowy mountains was simply amazing. Then we took off from Kalapani and were back home after another dreadfully long journey on the bus.
Looking back to the time we spent on that hill, it really was quite an experience, one that is worth remembering for a long while. I’d like to thank the Hiking Club for organizing such a wonderful hike and encourage them to continue it in future hikes.
