On 23rd February, 15 excited participants from Deerwalk Training Center and Deerwalk Group gathered at Deerwalk Complex at 7:00 AM, ready to kick off their adventure to Fung Fung Jharana. After a quick round of introductions and plenty of chatter, the group hopped onto the bus at 7:15 AM, eager to hit the road. The journey was smooth, but as they made their way closer to Kakani, the road was still under construction, making the ride a little bumpy and dusty. Still, the excitement in the air was palpable, and everyone was in good spirits.
By 8:45 AM, they arrived in Kakani, Ranipauwa, where the temperature was pleasantly cool, with clear skies and a refreshing breeze. The surrounding area was filled with greenery, which made it the perfect setting for the hike. Even though the road was a bit dusty, the views were more than worth it. The landscape was beautiful—lush hillsides, terraced fields, and towering trees. The air was crisp, and it felt like a world away from the city.
As the group began their hike, they passed through fields that had recently been harvested. The maize (or maze) fields looked empty but still gave a sense of the hard work the local farmers put into their land. Along the way, the trail was lined with vibrant rhododendrons in full bloom, their bright reds and pinks adding a pop of color to the green surroundings. It was a truly peaceful and beautiful sight that made the journey even more special.
At 9:00 AM, the hike began in earnest. The trail wasn’t easy, with some steep inclines that got the heart pumping, but the group stuck together, supporting each other and taking in the beautiful surroundings as they climbed. By 12:45 PM, after nearly four hours of trekking, the group reached their destination—Fung Fung Jharana. The sight of the waterfall was absolutely breathtaking, and the sound of the water crashing down was so refreshing after the hike. The group took some time to relax, snap photos, and just enjoy the peacefulness of the moment.
After soaking in the beauty of the waterfall, it was time to head back. The return journey was easier, with a pleasant descent, and by 3:00 PM, the group arrived back in Ranipauwa. They boarded the bus, feeling accomplished, a little tired, but mostly grateful for the experience.
The day was filled with camaraderie, laughter, and awe at the beauty of nature. From the dusty road to Kakani, the vibrant rhododendrons, and the refreshing waterfall, the group left with more than just memories of a hike—they left with a deep appreciation for the simplicity and beauty of the world around them.
