Greetings Everyone,
Our much-anticipated hike to Kulekhani began on the early morning of 28th June 2025. DWIT students gathered at the college premises at 7:15 AM, buzzing with excitement and ready for the adventure that lay ahead. By 7:45 AM, we departed, embarking on a journey that would soon become one of our most memorable experiences.
Our route took us through the scenic Dakshinkali road, a stretch that winds through the breathtaking Kathmandu Valley. Along the way, we were treated to picturesque views of terraced fields, traditional villages, and rolling green hills. The three-and-a-half-hour journey flew by as we soaked in the beauty of nature and bonded with our fellow hikers.
Upon reaching Kulekhani, we followed a road to the left that led us directly to the Kulekhani Dam. The first glimpse of Kulekhani Lake from the dam was nothing short of magical. The serene water body, surrounded by verdant hills, instantly captured our hearts. For many people from Kathmandu and Hetauda, Kulekhani Lake now holds the same significance and charm as Fewa Lake ,and we could clearly see why.
We reached the hotel after walking and then after lunch and some rest, we went on a short hike to Bheda Farm—but this wasn’t just any hike. We carried plastic bags and picked up trash along the way, helping to keep the area clean. Though the sun was harsh and the uphill climb was tiring, reaching the top was worth it. The farm was wide and green, filled with goats and sheep grazing freely.
On our way back, we stumbled upon a hidden gem—a secluded waterfall tucked between trees and bushes. To our sun-beaten and exhausted group, it felt like stumbling upon an oasis. A few of us cooled our feet in the chilly water, while the rest soaked in the view and snapped photos, all sharing the refreshing moment with laughter and joy. Rejuvenated, we returned to our hotel with stories already forming in our minds.
That evening, we had planned for a cozy campfire gathering. Unfortunately, nature had other plans, and our night under the stars had to be postponed due to unexpected weather. Nonetheless, the spirit of the group remained high. The next morning, our hike resumed around 8 AM, this time toward the enchanting Mohini Jharana. The route was a mix of uphill and downhill paths, made enjoyable by the lush greenery and the friendly village dogs who followed us like loyal companions. Their silent company made the journey feel like something out of a storybook.
Mohini Jharana turned out to be the highlight of our hike. Nestled in the heart of nature, the waterfall cascaded into a pool that resembled a natural swimming area. Surrounded by thick forest and occasional sightings of animals, the place felt serene—almost sacred. We took our time to appreciate the view, letting nature’s calmness wash over us.
On our return journey, we decided to take a different route—one that felt straight out of the stories our parents used to tell us about how they walked to school. We trekked downhill through narrow passages, sometimes making our own trail. The rawness of this path made the adventure feel even more real and grounding.Eventually, we reached a point where boats were waiting for us. A short motorboat ride brought us back to our hotel—an exciting way to wrap up the hiking portion of our journey. After a hearty lunch, we began our return to Kathmandu.
Though we returned physically tired, our hearts were full. The memories we made—laughing with friends, exploring nature, overcoming exhaustion, and finding joy in small discoveries—will stay with us far longer than any photo.
