On the 16th of November, 2024, our group of 19 embarked on a memorable two-day adventure to the picturesque landscapes of Chitlang and Kulekhani. Designed to foster physical well-being, team bonding, and a deeper appreciation for nature, the hike proved to be an extraordinary experience for all participants.

Our journey began in the early hours at DWIT College, where excitement filled the air. After a thorough briefing by the hike coordinator, we boarded the bus and departed at 6:50 AM. The first stop was at a local tea shop to eat chanan aalu tarkari, tea and boiled egg to energized us for the upcoming journey. By 8:58 AM, we arrived at Chandragiri and secured our tickets for a much-anticipated cable car ride. As the cable car ascended, breathtaking panoramic views of lush hills and valleys unfolded before us, setting a serene tone for the adventure. Upon reaching the summit, we captured a vibrant group photo at the iconic "I LOVE CHANDRAGIRI HILLS" sign, marking the official start of our hike.

The hike began at 9:38 AM, meandering through verdant paths that showcased the untouched beauty of nature. By 10:15 AM, we reached the back route checkpoint, taking a brief pause to regroup before continuing. The journey to Chitlang featured a mix of challenging ascents and rewarding vistas. At 12:46 PM, we reached a cozy stop in Chitlang to enjoy snacks and recharge. The trail then led us to the charming Markhu Village, which we reached at 4:19 PM. Here, we checked into the New Pareli Hotel at 4:30 PM, where rooms were assigned, and the group had a chance to relax. Later in the evening, we strolled to the tranquil Kulekhani Lake. The serene atmosphere by the lakeside, complemented by the setting sun, left us in awe of nature’s splendor. The day concluded with a lively bonfire at 7:45 PM, where stories, laughter, and camaraderie created unforgettable memories under a star-lit sky. We hiked about 17.5 kilometers in Day 1.

Day two began on an invigorating note with a morning run at 6:25 AM, embracing the crisp mountain air. People who were not tired from yesterdays strenuous hike went for a trail run of about 6kms  while the rest took a leisurely lakeside walk, soaking in the morning tranquility. The highlight of the day was a delightful boating session across the serene waters of Kulekhani Lake, beginning at 9:45 AM and concluding at 10:37 AM. The experience was both peaceful and exhilarating, leaving everyone with cherished memories. Back at the hotel by 10:43 AM, we enjoyed a hearty lunch at 11:00 AM, preparing for the journey home.

Before departing, we visited the Markhu Suspension Bridge at 12:03 PM, marveling at its architectural charm and capturing more photos. By 12:46 PM, we boarded the bus for the return trip. A brief reflective pause at Chitlang allowed us to savor the final moments of this remarkable journey. We arrived back at Kathmandu’s Ring Road by 3:00 PM, bringing our adventure to a close.

This hike was much more than a journey through nature; it was a celebration of teamwork, resilience, and the sheer joy of exploration. Each participant contributed to making it a truly enriching experience, leaving us all inspired and rejuvenated.
