On August 24, 2024, a collaborative hiking event was organized by the DWIT Social Service Club and DWIT Hiking Club in partnership with the Lions and Leos Club. The hike, titled "Hike for Health, Environment, and Happiness", brought together 31 enthusiastic participants—14 from Deerwalk College and 17 from the Lions and Leos Club—with the aim of cleaning the hiking trail leading to Champadevi. This event showcased the unity and dedication of the participants towards a noble cause.
The hiking group was diverse, with participants ranging from 19 to 73 years old. Among the 17 participants from the Lions and Leos Club, there were 3 female members, while the rest were male. The participants gathered at Deerwalk College at 7:00 AM, where the excitement was evident among all the participants. By 7:20 AM, everyone had boarded the bus, and we set off towards Dakshinkali Municipality.
We arrived at Dakshinkali at around 8:00 AM, where we took a short break to enjoy breakfast. The cool morning air and the anticipation of the hike ahead created a sense of togetherness among the participants. By 9:20 AM, we had reached the foot of Champadevi Hill, ready to embark on our hiking journey.
The hike began with high spirits, but the challenging trail and the rising heat tested our endurance. However, the primary objective of the hike cleaning the trail kept everyone motivated. Armed with gloves and bags, we picked up litter as we made our way up the hill. The sight of participants of all ages working together for a common cause was truly inspiring and underscored the importance of unity and collaboration.
At around 1:00 PM, we reached the picnic spot on Champadevi Hill. Here, we took a well-deserved break, enjoying a delicious lunch that had been prepared in advance. The break was filled with joy and laughter as participants engaged in musical activities and various games, such as the spoon race and pass the ball. Samriddhi Paudel won the pass the ball contest, while Surendra Nath Adhikari Sir from the Lions Club emerged victorious in the spoon race. Prizes were awarded to the winners, adding an extra layer of excitement to the day.
After the games, we resumed our trail-cleaning efforts, collecting a significant amount of garbage that was later disposed of at designated spots provided by the municipality. The Lions Club presented token of love to both the presidents as representatives of the organizing clubs. Additionally, Pranjal Raut was honored as the "Hiker of the Day" for his unwavering dedication to the hike's cause.
Before concluding the event, both clubs expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Lions and Leos Club for their active involvement and support in making the hike a success. The hike officially ended as we gathered for a final meal at 3:40 PM and returned to Deerwalk College by 4:35 PM.
The event "Hiking for a Cause" was a resounding success, filled with joy, unity, and a shared sense of purpose. The management and coordination by all the involved clubs were commendable, and each hiker left with a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. The event not only promoted environmental awareness but also strengthened the bonds between the participants, leaving lasting memories for everyone involved.
