The day was Shrawan 23. On this pleasant morning of a weekend holiday, the students of Grade 12 arrived early at 9, ready to go to their first hike of the academic session. Although not everyone was present, only a few were ready for an adventurous day out on the hike from Changu Narayan all the way to Sankhu.

We students along with our class teachers set off to the journey at sharp 9:30 AM. We, students, enjoyed this long journey on the bus by singing, playing a guitar, dancing, laughing and intaking the warm and special views across the valley.

Upon arriving at the destination, we took a short walk along the local road leading to the Changu Narayan temple. This temple is a sacred and mesmerizing temple located around the outskirts of the Kathmandu Valley and is a very popular tourist destination. Prayers were done and many photos were taken at this place as it was filled with devotees and tourists all around.

Soon after that, we were on our way towards the hiking trail. Although we didn’t really know the actual trail we were supposed to go, the local people shared the directions. We made a couple of rounds around the Changunarayan area trying to find a way and soon we were finally on our way towards Sankhu. Along the way, breathtaking views were seen of the valley. The trail was filled with people from around the area. As excitement and energy filled our bodies, we enjoyed the way, singing, laughing and moving as if there was nothing to worry about. Soon as the excitement and energy were all taken out, we were keen to take a rest at a lovely place, the Chihan Danda. From here, a beautiful scene of the valley was seen. The chilly weather had finally started to drizzle drops of rain. However, it didn’t really affect us as we marched on after taking a short break for food and drinks. Again, as we walked we were enjoying our times to the fullest singing along the way. We took photos of scenes unforgettable to us and stored in our memories to delight in the distant future.

We walked atop a hill then went straight downhill and continued this for a while. The road was slippery due to the slight rain which did stop after sometime. The road did make us tired but slowly but surely we were heading towards the final path. It was at this time that we were lost and had to ask the locals for the directions. We were going the right way and had only some distance left to get to the nearest park. We took a short stop there playing with the dogs there and went towards the Sankhu Bus Park. This was our final destination and upon reaching a day of hiking with fellow classmates and teachers had finally come to an end. During our way towards this bus park, we encountered some local people. They were kind enough to tell us the way and had told us the bus park is only a short walk away from the park. We moved towards the directions we were given and it was more of a very long walk rather than a short walk. The uphill road was the most tiring there. It was filled with vehicles, people and every time we saw a local bus we thought the bus park was around the corner, which it was not. We had no choice but to continue on the road and upon gazing at a bright yellow bus coming towards us, we already knew it was the school bus coming to pick us up. We were picked by the bus and were moving towards our school from Sankhu. On the way, we listened to some music and rested after a tireful day.

The hike was surely an entertaining one filled with joy and rain. And although we lost our way in times, we were reminded that humans help each other in times of need and enjoy ourselves to the fullest. Surely an experience to savor and a memory we can look back and enjoy in the future.

On a fine morning of 21st Shrawan, the students of Grade 12 gathered in the school premises at 9:30. Then, at 9:35, we all got into the bus and set off our journey to Changu Narayan. On the way to Changu Narayan, we had a lot of fun playing guitar and singing songs. The mesmerizing views of the hills, temples, and lifestyle of local people really caught our sight.

After an hour, we reached the destination from where we were about to start our hike. We all stopped for a minute as we were lost in the beauty of Bhaktapur. With tons of energy and excitement, we took our first step of our hike. We started to climb the Changu Narayan temple with our jolly faces.. After a short walk of about 10 minutes, we reached the premises of the temple. We clicked plenty of photos and videos there capturing the good times that are going to be missed later. Then, we went inside the temple, did a short praying session and began to move to the route of Sankhu. As there were a lot of roads, we had a little confusion about which road to take. So, we decided to ask the locals and  we set off on our journey to hike. The weather was in our favor. The chilly cloudy weather thrilled us and kept our excitedness throughout the hike. We played songs during the hike, we were dancing, singing and enjoying the walk. We all were also managing to keep us hydrated.

On the way,we found Chihan Danda. So, we decided to climb the Danda and have our lunch over there. We all showered with sweat but still we did not give up and kept on moving. We all gave hands to  each other while moving on the broken roads. With a little difficulty, we reached the Chihan Danda and took a glimpse of the valley. We rested there for a while, sharing our lunch with each other. We had fun on Chihan danda as we played guitar, sang, danced and made tiktok.

Slowly, we again started our journey to Sankhu after asking a local person if we were on the right way or not. Eventually, some of our friend's legs started to hurt. So, we were resting in some places and moving. But sti2ll, we did not stop to have fun. The mesmerizing view of the valley was along us throughout the journey. We crossed some bridges over Salinadi and we finally made it to our destination, the beautiful Sankhu.

The last point of the hike was Sankhu bus station. We all were delighted to see our school bus as the walk had made us really tired. While returning, we played songs and enjoyed it.

The memories of this will always be with us. This hike has shown us that we need to struggle to see good things.
