This is a recent story of a serving Pokhara Appellate Court judge. The main factor behind this news is not his personal affairs as stated but in my opinion, this gentleman has been penalised for speaking the truth. Many people of this world have affairs, some visible and some invisible. In Nepal anything visible is criticised, but the same thing hidden or covered up is accepted. There could be two factors that made this story news. One — on October 10, he criticised CA members when he spoke bluntly, directly and fearlessly in Pokhara. This was his opinion and the voice of the individual must be respected and heard not discouraged. This is what democracy is all about. You can listen to many interaction programmes on FM radio about CA members. There you will hear the people’s voice and their feelings are mostly negative opinions about them.

Sad to say the current scenario of this country in electing a Prime Minister continues. Recently one of the loosing candidates, after six rounds of defeat, proudly said to the journalist, that this was not his defeat but the defeat and failure of the Constituent Assembly (CA). He further said, if I am a looser then who is the winner? In my opinion this is called logical cheating.

For any country to develop it needs to maximise the use of its human resources. Education, awareness, and discipline are the keys to success. In Sanskrit there is beautiful quote: “Vidya Dhanam Sarba Dhanam Pradhana”, meaning, the wealth of education is the greatest wealth. Previously Nepal’s education system was strong enough for the required manpower of the country. The products(students)of the old education system were suitable for the jobs available. When the New Education Plan was implemented in Nepal a western advisor, Mr. John, came here and established an office in Keshar Mahal, Ministry of Education. With English speaking office assistant, some attractive lady secretaries and few drivers the project started sowing the seeds of disparity in the educational sector.
