Our first outing in Deerwalk started with the journey towards the most attractive place on the outskirt of Kathmandu, Nagarkot. One of the most scenic spots, renowned for its sunrise and sunset views of the Himalayas; it is a common holiday destination for tourists and the residents of Kathmandu.

Hiking from Changu Narayan to Nagarkot
The drive from Annapurna hotel to the area where we started the hike was around an hour. From there, we spent half an hour touring a temple and then we started the actual hike. It was mandatory for each of us to have at least one full bottle of water, a snack (a snickers bar was provided for us), and juice. Our group consisted of eight people along with four people from Deerwalk. Then, we started along the trail. Our group had been given two options, to either take the “long way” which was four hours or the “shorter way” which split that time in half. The long (and beautiful) way was unanimously decided upon. We had decided to do a first part and then a second part later after lunch. Even from the start, the soon to be long walk had beautiful scenery. We passed by many shacks with many people sitting on their porches or working around their house. The first trail we walked on was made of concrete and easy to walk on; however later on, the path had dusty areas and rocky areas.

The purpose of team outing is basically to have fun with team members and enjoy the time without having to worry about the work which we have put behind. It can be assumed to be a motivational event which provides opportunities to get to know one another and refresh ourselves from the mundane task.

So it’s early in the morning and I am about to write a blog for the very first time about our trip to Nagarkot. As the trip was last Saturday, my memory of it is already a bit hazy. But I am sure for most people who have been on an outing with their fellow colleagues from Deerwalk, saying ‘we went on an outing’ is pretty self-explanatory. But of course, being the new guy here and having only been on one of such a trip, I have drawn this conclusion only from the fun loving fellas from Benecore, Hedis and Makalu; and hence readers from other sections of the office might not find it ‘self-explanatory’. So, I’ll try and cover the very gist of it as I continue.

After a short walk, we reached the premises of Nagarkot tower. As it was Saturday, the tower was overcrowded. Some were there for picnic, some were enjoying the view taking photographs from the top; while others were busy climbing up and down the tower. We sat there for some time. Cool breeze was blowing, it was wonderful. We could see the Himalayas behind the clouds. The sky was not so clear though. We returned back from there and entered a restaurant to have our lunch. After having lunch, we headed back home.

It was my first outing from Deerwalk. I was excited from the beginning on how it would be. And to sum all up, it was a good experience. I like to say it provided me a great opportunity to know my colleagues at a more personal level.

Hiking never gets boring because there is always something new to see, learn and experience. So, I was very excited about going on my first hike from Deerwalk Foods (DWF), and woke up early to reach Deerwalk premises. There were 12 of us in our group: 10 staff members from Deerwalk Foods and 2 Directors, Pramod and Kapil, from Deerwalk Services. This hike was special because it was a sort of a farewell for Mohan, ex-manager of DWF, and a welcome for Ram, the new manager of DWF.
