Shivaratri, an auspicious day for the worshipers of Lord Shiva, is celebrated by Hindus all over the world. Shiva the Destroyer of Evil is among the most praised and worshiped of all the Gods in the Hindu religion. Among thousands of monuments and idols representing Shiva, Pashupatinath shrine is considered to be the most regarded and holy of all. People of all age group visit the shrine on the Shivaratri festival. On this day, people fast throughout the day. At dawn, worshipers take a holy bath or dip in the river and go to the temple to worship. Interestingly, this day, devotees and non devotees alike freely indulge in smoking marijuana and bhang considering them as the prashad of Shiva. It is believed that Shiva himself is very fond of it. Continuing the yearly trend, EU volunteers also thronged to the Pashupatinath area capturing the festival from their perspective. We have also received entries from new contributors.
