I have seen countless images of many parts of the world and always had this desire to see as many places as possible and I was more than thankful when I was provided with the opportunity to visit the Deerwalk’s Lexington office. Ah ! my first travel overseas .Beyond excited. How could I not be ? When I sat on the plane there was a mixed feeling of excitement, happiness and nervousness; all at the same time.
I landed at Boston airport at 7:30pm , 3rd of march and it wasn’t until the next day that I realized how different the place was compared to the pictures in my head. Boston was completely covered in snow , we could barely step out of the house ; and the temperature was bone chilling cold . Flying through different time zone, my brain and body took almost 1 week to overcome jet lag. Despite completely different work atmosphere ,I couldn’t resist thinking how much we have yet to learn from this place. The significant difference that I noticed was the work culture and professionalism. I was there for a month and wanted to make sure that I made the most out of it . So every weekend , I’d stroll around the town sometimes alone , other days with my colleagues. I was astonished how the small historic city was home to so many prestigious academic institutions.
Another thing nobody would like to miss out during US visit is the New York city, the symbol of American prosperity and economic prowess .On the contrary to my expectations, I did not feel completely out of place as it remind me of Kathmandu in certain aspects, mostly the streets busy with people. The city left me in awe. I was more impressed with the mass transit system than the citys’ skyline.
A roller coaster experience for me being away from home, friends and family. Grateful to all the people hosted me and made me feel like home away from home.
