Hiking from Chitlang to Kulekhani

Reshma Pakhreen Tamang “20, 50, 100 places to visit before you turn 25, 30, 40 blah blah ”. Every time I read these posts I would think when I will be able to visit these places. Though I am not an outdoor person, I wasn’t sure whether I can do this 2 days hiking or not. Being newly added member of Deewalk, I took this opportunity to know my new friends and also to explore my dreams of visiting new places because life is too short to wake up with regrets.

On the day of outing, we had decided to leave at 9 from office premises towards Chitlang. One of the best part was our manager Sushant Dai also joined us in this hiking. It was supposed to be nearly 3 hours’ drive but we had too many obstacles ahead. It started raining when we left for picking up our hiking participants. We were worried about hiking whether it would be successful or not but it turned out to be adventurous. We sang songs, cracked jokes all the way. Since it rained lightly at morning, the road condition got worse and we had to put big stones on our path to move our van ahead. As road was getting worse, we had to send our van back and start our hiking nearly half an hour away from Chitlang .

We took short routes and reached Chitlang at around 1:30pm. Without any delay, we started heading towards Markhu. After walking for nearly four hours, we reached Markhu. The view of Indrasarovar Lake was breath-taking. We went to our hotel and took rest. After that, we went to the suspension bridge over Indrasarovar. It was very relaxing. My heart filled with joy, peace and serenity. At night, we had campfire, sang songs, roasted some potatoes, played cards.

At day two, we had breakfast and went to morning walk near the place where Kulekhani starts. We came back to our hotel and checked out and went for boating. After that, We started our hiking from Markhu to Kulekhani. During our journey, we had Neha didi’s speaker as our entertaining source. Taking a lot of photos and gossips made our hiking easier. By the time we reached Kulekhani, we were too tired and hungry. Finding a nice hotel for meal was very difficult. After having lunch and resting for half and hour, our vehicle arrived and we headed for Kathmandu. Overall, This two days hiking is one of the best experience of my life.

Rukshar Prajapati We all need refreshment in today’s busy and stressful life as a computer needs to be refreshed timely to function smoothly. Considering such important thing, squad A organized 2-day hiking to incredibly beautiful, naturally enriched places : Chitlang and Markhu on 7th and 8th April of 2018.

On the first day of hiking, at the morning time, weather was gloomy and cloudy. It started raining since morning. But, we started our hiking journey being very optimistic from office premises at 9 am. Though weather was bad, it increased our joy, excitement and made our hiking more adventurous. The landscapes, nature views really amazed us which we encountered from window of our vehicle. The condition of road was worsened by rain and we had to start our hiking before we reached Chitlang. The first few hours of hiking was exhausting. Then, slowly we got used to it and started enjoying our walk in the nature. Living in Kathmandu, we rarely encounter the places or routes with a concrete jungle. The freshness of air along those routes; the blooming rhododendron attracted me and I wished this hiking would never end. We had the bonfire at the evening time, sang songs, played cards.

Our second day started very early. We went for boating in the Indra Sarobar Lake at Markhu after having breakfast and morning walk. We were awe-struck by the amazing views at Markhu which still remains in our heart and mind. After boating, we started our journey from Markhu to Kulekhani. By the time we reached Kulekhani, we were tired and hungry. After having meal, we returned to Kathmandu in our office van.

This hike experience makes us realize that happiness, fun and joy is inherited in travelling. We really should travel as much as we can. We should travel at least one unvisited place each year to rejuvenate our inner soul and energy.
