Dicchya Shakya’s US Visit

29th of October, the day arrived and I was set to fly to US for the second time in the year 2017. The excitement from the first trip had barely faded. Many of my teammates were there waiting for my arrival and planning for the work and adventure we were going to have; not before enduring an excruciatingly long transit at the waiting lounge.

I reached there on 30th Oct sleep deprived and joined office the very next day. I was happy to meet all my colleagues and the seniors again. This visit was very memorable as I was able to celebrate and experience the festivals of the western culture. It started with Halloween. We could see Halloween decorations in every corners of the town, people wearing different costumes and children playing Trick or Treat. We went to Salem that featured Halloween themed live shows and special programs.

The weekdays were very hectic so the weekends felt like a reward. I tried to make the best out of the weekends and have as much fun as I could. We went to Park Street, Quincy Market, Boston Downtown, Celtics NBA game, Frog Pond Skating and many more places in Boston.

My colleagues were planning for a trip to New York. I had already been there during my previous visit but I thought New York never disappoints so I tagged along and on 11th of November we headed to the city of lights. The central attraction of NYC is Time’s Square – it’s bright, busy and where all of the action takes place. We spent most of the time visiting iconic NYC landmarks like Central Park, World Trade Center, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Madame Tussauds and many more.

My next trip was to Las Vegas, Nevada. I was blown away the moment I landed in Las Vegas.

Everything was bright, flashy and oh the airport had a casino too. It is better to see something once than to have heard about it a thousand times.

Everything was bright, flashy and oh the airport had a casino too. It is better to see something once than to have heard about it a thousand times. I was enthralled by sights and sounds of the city. We visited several renowned hotels like the MGM Grand, the Bellagio, the Mirage, Ceasar’s Palace and the infamous Mandalay Bay among others, the Stratosphere tower, Fremont Street, Fabulous Vegas, Hershey’s chocolate world, Paris and New York of Vegas.

It’s better to look back on life and say – ”I can’t believe I did that!” than to look back and say- “I wish I did that!” My second visit to the US was as exciting as the first. But sadly all good things come to an end. I returned back to Kathmandu with wonderful memories on 2nd Jan 2018.

I am very grateful to Rudra dai and Milan dai for providing me with this opportunity. Ashay and Ekta for being great host during my stay with their great hospitality. Smriti, Mukta, Suresh, Saroj, Rebika, Sagar, Bipul, Manish and Sanjeev for guiding me through the city and the entire Deerwalk Family in Boston for making my stay memorable.
