Travelling is one of the most enriching experiences. Despite the fact that I was travelling to the US for the third time, there were a few reasons for me to be excited with this trip. We had been serving our client for more than three years, and I would be meeting their on-shore team in person for the first time. I was confident that this visit would take our professional relation to the next level, and give us new opportunities to explore.
Saint Augustine once quoted: “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” The moment I came to know that I was next in line for the US visit, I was on cloud nine. After a month-long preparation, I was finally departing for Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
The departure date of my flight to the US for the visit to Deerwalk office headquarters was a bright Sunday morning. I had never been to the US before, so I was both nervous and excited, as it was my first time traveling such a great distance alone.
My ticket to Boston was finalized and scheduled for December 30, 2015, making my arrival date New Year’s Eve (December 31, 2015). I had mixed feelings about reaching the US on such a day, and was prepared to celebrate the new year jet-lagged and drowsing off in bed.
My journey from Kathmandu began on November 22 and, after flying for more than 24 hours, I reached Boston. Since I had heard that it is very cold in Boston during winter, I had packed my luggage with warm clothes and snow boots. I hoped that there would be snow when I reached Boston but when my plane landed I was quite sad to realize that I was the only person at the airport wearing winter gear.
‘TRAVELLING’ – At first it made me speechless. Today, it has turned me into a story-teller. The most awaited day – the day I left for the USA – finally arrived after a month of preparations. All my bags were packed and ready to go. I was full of excitement and thrill because I was leaving on a jet-plane.
I had a great trip to the United States. As Rudra Dai says,”You must visit United States of America at least once.” It was everything I was told, heard, read and have seen in movies.
It is said, “Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” The first few days of my trip felt like I was in an alien world where there are good roads but small houses, lots of greenery but very few people to enjoy it, and lots of mailboxes but less conversation among the people using them.
After some hectic times getting my visa processed, I finally got to breathe a sigh of relief when the application was accepted. My travel anxiety had started a couple of days before the trip. I had heard about the heavy snowfall and extreme cold in Boston, so I got my luggage packed with warm winter clothes.
Travel preparation for the US started with a discussion about the weather in Boston, which is freezing cold in winter. As we discussed the weather, it seemed to me like it was going to be a dull time of year because of the cold. Fortunately, I traveled during festive Christmas and New Year season.
