No sooner Deputy Prime Minister Amik Sherchan convinced the agitators at Bhadrakali and Maitighar to call off their protest programs on Monday, the protests spread early morning at the outskirt of the valley at Koteshor.
The 17th National Conference of ANNFSU Revolutionary, the Maoists’ student outfit, is underway in the capital. The Conference will last for four days beginning from 18th September.
There has been hardly any day without some sorts of strike or traffic jams in the capital in 120 days after the success of democratic movement. It was very difficult for anybody to reach the desired destination on given time.
The picture stares out at me from the computer. It is of a child, a dead child. She is being carried by a middle-aged man. He extends her towards the camera. Her arms are stretched to the sides, eerily resembling Christ’s crucifixion. Grey dust covers her hair. Her head looks down. The man holding her is looking to the side, his flushed face both angry and grieving.
“The Seven Party Alliance (SPA) should be very careful of what they are getting into. The strike which they have started seems to have gone out of their hands. Activists have started going house to house asking for at least one participant from each family and have asked private businesses to close down forcefully. People have to participate by will, not by force. These tactics are definitely not democratic but rather resemble that of the Maoists.
