A street vendor trying to sell his bubble pipes to people (esp. kids) who had come to see gaily dressed women dancing and singing at Basantapur Palace premesis on the occasion of “Teej”-the fasting festival for Hindu women.
Pictures of roadside vending such as above is a common story around streets of Kathmandu. The roadside markets along the city’s thoroughfares and adjacent areas supports the livelihood of many people, mostly migrant and illiterate. As the influx of people into the valley has increased, street vending has flourished over the years and proved important as a means of sustenance for those less lucky.
